If you could sit down with anyone for dinner, who would it be and why? My grandfather, he passed away when I was only 7. As an adult I’ve learned a lot more about him and wish I could’ve asked him things I wouldn’t have thought of when I was still a kid. He was a fighter pilot in WWII and I [...]

The Electronic Log Device (ELD) mandate is less than 3 months away! If you are unfamiliar with the upcoming mandate, the ELD rule is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and in turn, make it easier, faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data. An ELD synchronizes with a vehicle engine to automatically record driving time, for easier, more accurate hours of service (HOS) recording. The mandate was first published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in December 2015, this is Phase One. In Phase Two, officially going into effect on December 18th, 2017, carriers and drivers can use AOBRDS that are installed prior to December 18th, 2017 or self-certified and have registered ELDs with FMCSA. Finally, Phase Three is after December 16th, 2019, where all drivers and carriers are subject to the rule must use self-certified ELDs that are registered with FMCSA.
Upgrading your fleet is a major investment, but it can be necessary depending upon the state and age of your existing equipment. You may find that replacing equipment with financing and leasing programs is a better investment than paying for numerous repairs to an older vehicle. This post will list reasons to replace a truck, for instance, if a truck is experiencing too many problems or is not compliant with modern FMCSA fleet rules. It will also point out the benefits of updating your fleet with high-quality vehicles, including access to warranties, leasing options, low mileage, and low monthly payments.
Technology Improves Safety
As the transportation industry slowly adapts to technology, there have been a lot of products and solutions developed in order to make sure drivers are remaining safe on the road.
Unfortunately, accidents are extremely common for truck drivers while they are out on the road. If you are a trucking company, preventing accidents and encouraging your drivers to be safe on the road should be your number one priority. As summer is winding down and cold weather is quickly approaching, taking the proper steps to make sure your drivers are staying alert and vigilant while driving is important. Implementing a safety program cannot only protect your company’s bottom line but encourage safe driving among your drivers and employees.
Driving a truck is an extremely dangerous profession. Tractor-trailers are about 20-30 times larger than most cars and trucks on the road and because of the dramatic increase in size, this can cause roads to become unsafe especially in dangerous weather. “Motor vehicle crashes cost employers $60 billion annually in medical care, legal expenses, property damage, and lost productivity. They drive up the cost of benefits such [...]
