Whether they’re on Santa’s nice list or the naughty one, these gifts are sure to put a smile on your loved truckers face.
As drivers spend so many countless hours over the road and away from home it is important to have good entertainment available in your off-hours.

Comments Off on Industry Issues: Requirements, Marketing, and Turnover
As the days of the classic long-haul trucker fade into the sunset carriers are looking towards a new generation of drivers to help keep freight moving. The problem is that despite the mass amount of available driving positions fewer and fewer American’s are entering the arena of professional truck driving. Those who are wanting to drive professionally are often misinformed and sadly under educated. Many new drivers have unrealistic expectations regarding their potential earnings and the amount of work truly required to be successful. Too often carriers are expending valuable time and resources to recruit drivers who are simply unretainable. Finding and recruiting the right drivers can be overwhelming. Here, at Quality, we can help carriers take a thoughtful approach that will create many benefits for both the carrier and the driver.
Fleets are offering higher wages and other compensation for drivers but there’s still a need for more new talent, Costello [...]

Comments Off on Future Wars: Hydrogen vs. Electric Semi-Trucks
A battle is looming on the horizon of the trucking industry. This future war has high stakes and promises to change trucking forever. Within the next 3 years’ competitors will vie for the right to put diesel-free trucks on the road. Nikola Motor Company and Tesla have both revealed their perceived future for trucking in the form of Hydrogen Fuel Cells (Nikola) and Electric Battery Powered (Tesla). Both these units ambitiously aim to replace diesel powered trucks in the coming years. While the results will not be known for years both offer lots of benefits and a few possible negatives.
Nikola Motors Hydrogen Fuel Powered Semi-Truck
Nikola Motor Company’s Nikola One (Sleeper) and Nikola Two (Day Cab) both have estimated release dates of early 2020. Hydrogen fuel cells fully power Nikola trucks, eliminating diesel dependency forever. Nikola Trucks claim double fuel efficiency from the standard 7.5 MPG (diesel) to 15.4 MPG of Hydrogen Fuel. Additionally, [...]
With the holiday season fast approaching, we all find ourselves feeling a little more rushed; the transportation industry is no different. As ice and snow build up on our roadways it’s important to follow some simple and safe tips for operating in hazardous winter conditions.
The first and most important step is preventative maintenance. We strongly urge drivers to make a checklist of potential problems as well as regular maintenance items to check. All drivers, regardless of weather, should regularly check:
Wiper Blades – Are they in good condition? Do you have a spare set in the event they need to be changed unexpectedly over the road? Checking wiper blades one monthly takes less than a minute but can keep you safe and rolling.
Fluids – Are all your necessary’s at least half way full? Do [...]
Comments Off on 4 Things to Look for in A Used Tractor Trailer
Purchasing a truck is a significant investment that if you’re not careful, can eat up your entire profit. But by being an owner operator, your truck is going to be your livelihood so getting a good truck is going to be important. The next decision will be deciding whether to purchase a new or used truck. Purchasing a used truck provides many advantages, the most obvious being that the cost could be substantially lower. Another advantage is that more owner operators have been purchasing used trucks compared to buying a new one, especially for a first-time buyer. With newer trucks, it is commonly known that after you drive off the lot, it automatically depreciates in value around 20%-40%.
However, if you are not careful, purchasing a used truck can mean that you are buying more risk than opportunity. One of the major disadvantages of purchasing a used truck is that used vehicles are most likely [...]
Comments Off on ELD Mandate Update: Less Than 3 Months Away
The Electronic Log Device (ELD) mandate is less than 3 months away! If you are unfamiliar with the upcoming mandate, the ELD rule is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and in turn, make it easier, faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data. An ELD synchronizes with a vehicle engine to automatically record driving time, for easier, more accurate hours of service (HOS) recording. The mandate was first published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in December 2015, this is Phase One. In Phase Two, officially going into effect on December 18th, 2017, carriers and drivers can use AOBRDS that are installed prior to December 18th, 2017 or self-certified and have registered ELDs with FMCSA. Finally, Phase Three is after December 16th, 2019, where all drivers and carriers are subject to the rule must use self-certified ELDs that are registered with FMCSA.
Unfortunately, accidents are extremely common for truck drivers while they are out on the road. If you are a trucking company, preventing accidents and encouraging your drivers to be safe on the road should be your number one priority. As summer is winding down and cold weather is quickly approaching, taking the proper steps to make sure your drivers are staying alert and vigilant while driving is important. Implementing a safety program cannot only protect your company’s bottom line but encourage safe driving among your drivers and employees.
Driving a truck is an extremely dangerous profession. Tractor-trailers are about 20-30 times larger than most cars and trucks on the road and because of the dramatic increase in size, this can cause roads to become unsafe especially in dangerous weather. “Motor vehicle crashes cost employers $60 billion annually in medical care, legal expenses, property damage, and lost productivity. They drive up the cost of benefits such [...]
