Purchasing a truck is a significant investment that if you’re not careful, can eat up your entire profit. But by being an owner operator, your truck is going to be your livelihood so getting a good truck is going to be important. The next decision will be deciding whether to purchase a new or used truck. Comments Off on ELD Mandate Update: Less Than 3 Months Away
The Electronic Log Device (ELD) mandate is less than 3 months away! If you are unfamiliar with the upcoming mandate, the ELD rule is intended to help create a safer work environment for drivers, and in turn, make it easier, faster to accurately track, manage, and share records of duty status (RODS) data. An ELD synchronizes with a vehicle engine to automatically record driving time, for easier, more accurate hours of service (HOS) recording. The mandate was first published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in December 2015, this is Phase One. In Phase Two, officially going into effect on December 18th, 2017, carriers and drivers can use AOBRDS that are installed prior to December 18th, 2017 or self-certified and have registered ELDs with FMCSA. Finally, Phase Three is after December 16th, 2019, where all drivers and carriers are subject to the rule must use self-certified ELDs that are registered with FMCSA.
